At Third Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we believe faith should show up in real, practical ways. That’s why we are proud to share that we have officially broken ground on a new affordable housing development for seniors age 62 and older—a project designed to bring dignity, security, and peace of mind to older adults in our community.

 

On September 21, 2026 we celebrated a major milestone with a groundbreaking ceremony for the Third Christian Church Housing Initiative, located on our property off First Street in Warren.

About the Patricia Smith Homes
This new housing development will be known as the Patricia Smith Homes, with 20 units planned.

The Patricia Smith Homes are named in loving memory of Patricia Smith, a faithful member of Third Christian Church from 1973 until her passing in 2022. Patricia was Pastor Beverly Locke’s mother, and the grandmother of our development partner, Derrick Goliday.

What We’re Building
The development will include one-level, two-bedroom quadplex apartment units with garages—created to support comfort, accessibility, and independent living.

Our goal is to help meet the growing need for housing that is:

• Safe and stable

• Modern and accessible

• Affordable for seniors on limited incomes

We want seniors to be able to afford rent while still having room in their budget for essentials like food, health care, and daily needs—all while maintaining independence, dignity, and connection to community.

Project Timeline
This initiative will be developed in phases. In phase one the first four rental units are expected to be available by March 2026. Additional units will follow as the initiative expands toward the full 20-unit vision.

Why This Matters
Our community is facing a housing shortage, and seniors are often among those most impacted. Through this initiative, we are working to create housing that supports older adults with limited financial resources—so they can live independently with greater stability and peace of mind.

When completed, this development will also encourage neighborhood engagement and create opportunities for seniors to stay connected while enjoying a safe place to call home.
